The Hero's Path ยท Step 2 of 5 ยท The Wise One

The Wise One Allows

Not because it's okay. Not because you agree. But because fighting the moment is the only thing making it worse.

This is where real power begins. Not the power of control โ€” the power of allowing. And these are completely different things.

The Wise One doesn't like what's happening. The trigger is real. The body is still tense. The situation may genuinely be unjust, wrong, or painful. But instead of going to war with the moment, the Wise One does something Sir Ego cannot comprehend: he lets it be.

The war with the moment is over. Not because everything is fine โ€” but because nothing gets better when you're fighting what is. The Wise One opens the heart against the instinct to close it. That is the most powerful thing a human being can do.
โœจ The Wise One's Radical Allowing

Be Here Now โ€” Not in Sir Ego's Script

The Wise One's secret is simple and almost unbearably difficult: instead of living in Sir Ego's script about how things should be, he sees what is. This is the witness perspective โ€” the "be here now" moment. The beginning of everything good that happens next.

He uses the body to do this. Deliberately opening the chest. Dropping the shoulders. Taking a breath that goes all the way down. These aren't tricks โ€” they are signals to the nervous system that the emergency is not life-threatening. They create the conditions for a different kind of awareness to arise.

Think of it as a yoga stretch for the heart. You feel the instinct to contract, to pull away from the discomfort. But instead, you breathe into it. You hold the opening one breath longer than seems natural. You build strength and flexibility by staying open when every impulse says close. That strength, practiced over time, becomes who you are.

The Moment of Choice

Fork in the Road

This is the moment of free will. Will we choose the panicky reactive tendencies of Sir Ego โ€” or the calm, sure counsel of the Wise One? Will we choose fear or love? Temporary material victory or permanent spiritual victory?

Our choice in this moment will determine the future and heal the past. We cannot change what happened. But we can change what happens in us right now. And that changes everything that comes after.

I once had a boss who was my biggest supporter. He advocated for me even after learning about my DUI record, my jail time, all of it. Yet every mild correction he gave me sent me into full fight-or-flight panic. I knew it was irrational. I felt the fear take over anyway. Until one day in a contentious meeting โ€” I felt the fight energy rise, and I chose to do the opposite. I opened my heart. Pulled back my shoulders. Took a breath. And heard myself speak with a calm I didn't know I had. The dark cloud over the entire room dissolved. That was the Wise One. That moment changed my career.

Open the Heart On Purpose

This is the physical practice of choosing the Wise One. Use it in the moment โ€” even in the middle of a conversation:
